    The Montessori Model United Nations experience was a unique experience in my middle school career, and it is also my favorite experience in my career since now. First of all, I would like to thank the school, my parents, and my teachers, especially my homeroom teacher, Miss. Jiang, and also my colleagues, without their assistance and support, the whole event would be impossible.

    As all of my friends know, I hold special and extreme passions in politics, world issues, public speaking, debating and organizing. Therefore, Model United Nations is the activity that I would favor most. The preparing process was long and complicated: Position papers; speeches; research; and the study of the process of sessions were all necessary, and every second of this process was proved to be useful in the conference. I have prepared for the conference for 3 months, after that, I was finally on my way to New York City for the conference.

    The MMUN conference uses the American rule for MUN rather than the European rule, which means in just two days we have to establish our draft resolutions for both topics, revise it and finally turn them into resolutions..

    After those conference days, my emotions were complicated.

    Of course I was very glad that I had finally successfully led both resolutions, and I was very confident that I was doing the best delegate work that I could do, I also learned the Robert's Rules of Order, which is a democratic way of holding meetings, we basically vote for everything:

    Setting the agenda of meeting; figuring to discuss which topic do handle first; having moderated or unmoderated caucus; introducing action papers; moving to voting process for action papers; and even adjourning the meetings. I found the best way to hold a meeting, even if it was complicated at first, and indeed it was challenging.

    However, on the other hand, I felt a little bit sad, the preparations and all those struggles are history after the final voting, and more importantly after I realized the seriousness of the issues we were discussing, especially the children in armed conflﾟicts, the fact that there are 200,000 to 300,000 child soldiers who are younger than me fighting in the battlefields, and millions of children have lost their families and homes because of wars. I figured out great solutions, but unfortunately they could not be real solutions for the United Nations, and those children could not be saved. For us, delegates of Model United Nations decided, the feeling was terrible. However, despite this, I am determined to change the world and make it a better place, and I am going to work on this goal with my best intentions.
